Twins Delphine and Solange long for big-city life.

DNR Film Club: February Program – Musicals
During 5-7th of February we present Sounds of Silence – a silent film/live music festival, hosted by DNR for the second year. Our regular film program will therefore celebrate the bond of music and the moving image with four musicals that are among the greatest ever made in the genre.

The Young Girls of Rochefort (Jacques Demy, 1967)
Twins Delphine and Solange, a dance instructor and a music teacher (played by real-life sisters Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac), long for big-city life; when a fair comes through their quiet port town, so does the possibility of escape. With its jazzy Michel Legrand score, pastel paradise of costumes, and divine supporting cast (George Chakiris, Grover Dale, Danielle Darrieux, Michel Piccoli, and Gene Kelly),
The Young Girls of Rochefort is a tribute to Hollywood optimism from sixties French cinema’s preeminent dreamer, director Jacques Demy (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg).
