New realms of cinema, art and music.

Sounds of Silence festival is returning for a fourth edition from 9 - 11 of March!

This year the festival hosts the following musicians and artists: Geoff Leigh & Makoto Kawabata; Catchpenny Ensemble; Carlos Ema, Vicente J. Santiago and María Marín; The Scroll Ensemble; Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Vasilis Stefanopoulos and Teun Verbruggen; Andrius Arutiunian; UTNUZ and OMEGA IMPACT.

For the festival’s 4th edition we are excited and honored to host two internationally acclaimed musicians who have an iconic status in the history of contemporary music: Geoff Leigh (UK) and Makoto Kawabata (Japan) are giants of experimental music whose scope and influence are worldwide renowned. They will perform together in the opening day of the festival with the film The Man With the Moving Camera (Dziga Vertov, 1929).

Furthermore, we invited the groups UTNUZ and OMEGA IMPACT - a cross-national collaboration between musicians based in The Netherlands, Belgium and France, to mark the 110 birthday of the Brazilian director Mario Peixoto with the film Limite (1931).

Every year the festival is exploring new realms of cinema, art and music. This year we are expanding the scope of music genres even further and besides electronic, rock, jazz and experimental music, we will present films accompanied with flamenco music (by Carlos Ema on piano, composition and electronics; Vicente J. Santiago Santiago on flamenco guitar; and María Marín - flamenco guitar and singer) and baroque chamber music (by The Scroll Ensemble).

Two fixed exhibitions will run throughout the festival: a tribute to Georges Méliès by Catchpenny Ensemble, and a tribute to Georges Méliès by Andrius Arutiunian. These early silent cinema pioneers represent the very first divergence of cinema to its two main lines of fantasy and realism.

On-going installations 10-11 March
