WEST / OCCIDENT | 15:10 - 16:55 UUR| GROTE ZAAL | TICKETS
An excellent occasion to have a look into Cristian Mungiu’s abundant sense of humour and his in-depth understanding of the Romanian comical spirit.

West is a bittersweet comedy about a group of young people who want to emigrate from Romania as well as about their dear ones who are left behind. Taking place in 2000, seven years prior to Romania becoming a member of the European Union and an era when emigrating was a far more complex affair, the film has a rich and extremely comical structure. It follows three different stories which cross, interconnect and develop throughout an entire week, bringing their protagonists to radically influence each others lives.

West is Cristian Mungiu’s debut feature film. He went on to become Romania’s most internationally acclaimed director, the only one to have received the most prestigious film award, the Palme d’Or in Cannes  for his feature film ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days.’
