One of the most exciting cinematic sensations of recent years is the rise of new African-American cinema, and the fresh and critical perspective it has on American culture. November will be dedicated to some of the most significant titles that came out as part of this wave.

Get Out (Jordan Peele, 2017)
A young African-American visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.

Though it was promoted as a horror film, its true terror lies in the mirror it holds up to latent liberal racism and cultural appropriation. Vividly entertaining and urgently relevant, it may well be the defining film of our times.

The film became an instant critical success and was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. Jordan Peele made history as the first black screenwriter to win an Academy Award for best original screenplay.
