One of the fastest and toughest crime-gangster films ever made. (1949)

White Heat (Raoul Walsh, 1949)
Director Raoul Walsh's heroes had a knack for going too far, but none went further than James Cagney in this roaring gangster piece. Cagney plays a psychopathic criminal with a mother complex who makes a daring break from prison and leads his old gang in a payroll heist. Shortly after the plan takes place, events take a crazy turn. At once a film noir masterpiece and a Freudian tale, the film is one of the fastest and toughest crime-gangster films ever made, boasting a bravura performance from Cagney as a misogynist mama boy.
